Dr. A.J. Hickey is a Registered Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. She provides neuropsychological, psycho-educational, and gifted assessments to children and adolescents. She also provides intervention/therapy to children and adolescents suffering from a wide range of mental health difficulties. She has particular interest in anxiety and mood disorders, emotion dysregulation, behavioural difficulties, self-harm, interpersonal problems, and low self-esteem.
Dr. Hickey uses an integrated approach to meet her clients’ needs. She is well versed in a number of evidenced-based therapy models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), as well as experiential and interpersonal approaches. Her warmth, compassion, and sense of humour help her create strong, trusting relationships with her clients.
Dr. Hickey received her undergraduate degree in Psychology (Honours) and her Master’s degree in Neuroscience (M.Sc.) from Queens University. She earned her Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology from the University of Ottawa and she completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). Her clinical training profile also includes work in a variety of settings, including: hospitals, community-based mental health centres, university clinics, and private practice. Dr. Hickey also currently works at CHEO as a neuropsychologist on the Oncology team.
